The course is Lowry's latest community upgrade in the heart of metro Denver and the only course slated to open in Colorado in 2009. "Not only does the golf course enhance recreational access for residents, but research demonstrates that adjacent homes historically have a higher valuatoin than the average American home," said Tom Markham, executive director of the Lowry Redevelopment Authority. "This new Lowry amentiy adds to our already diverse set of recreational opportunities in Lowry." Once a working Air Force Base in Denver, Lowry has transformed into a forward-thinking, mixed-use community. Today more than 35,000 people live, work, play and learn at Lowry. Despite being more than 85 percent built out, Lowry has 12 quality homebuilders all placing the final touches on the Lowry community and the golf course will complement those efforts. Lowry has 22 diverse housing models including single-family homes, upscale lofts, townhomes, luxury condos and patio homes. In celebration of Common Ground’s opening, Lowry invites the community to tour a Lowry model home and pick up a Lowry golf coupon for a free bucket of balls at CommonGround. The community can also sign up at each model home in May for a chance to win one of six foursomes redeemable at CommonGround golf course. “We were looking for a project that would allow us to give something back to the community,” said Tom Doak, Renaissance Golf Design Group architect. “The course not only provides something for golfers of any age and skill level, but it’s also affordable.” The Lowry community will enjoy unbeatable accessibility to this championship quality golf course, which is within walking distance from housing options ranging from $100 thousands to the millions. Just like many homes in the Lowry community, the golf course provides breathtaking views of the front-range mountains. “Our community has be anxiously waiting for the golf course to open,” said Dave Troyer, CommonGround director of golf. “The course renovation provides a very strong asset to the local community and for many Lowry residents we are practically outside their door.” Previously the site of the former Lowry Air Force Base golf course, the course had since been opened to the public and then purchased by The Colorado Golf Association and Colorado Women’s Golf Association in 2005. In 2007, the association-owned course known as Mira Vista closed and world-renowned architect Tom Doak and his Renaissance Golf Design Group were hired to completely redesign the course. The new facility includes a world-class, 18-hole championship golf course, a nine-hole short courses devoted to junior golf development and a full-service practice facility. The 7,200 yard, par 71 layout is a complete overhaul of the previous course and has been planned to maximize the enjoyment of the game from the rawest beginners to the most skilled players.
