The objectives for the Buckley Annex redevelopment planning effort are:

  • Engage the community to determine their desires, needs, and expectations for the redevelopment. The plan should incorporate the best community and urban design standards to compliment and enhance the surrounding area.
  • Create opportunities to replace the lost jobs.
  • Expand the local tax base.
  • Fill any voids in neighborhood, local and regional community facilities and service needs including: recreation and open space, arts and culture, housing and education.
  • Capitalize on site attributes and assets.
  • Identify and plan for potential impacts on existing adjacent and nearby neighborhoods and businesses.
  • Understand and mitigate site liabilities.
  • Align land uses with environmental conditions to the extent possible.
  • Provide for an integrated mix of uses.
  • Base the plan on a sound understanding of economic and market conditions in the local and regional economy.
  • Promote the health and vitality of the local environment.
  • Develop guidance for phased development.
  • Create design guidelines and entitlement strategies to ensure long term compliance with the development plan.
